We’re sitting in Oklahoma city discussing some logo ideas and hearing Russ’ uncle tell stories about his heroic acts of heroism (seriously awesome), but that’s not the point of this post.
I wanted to let you know that you can now get email updates any time we post something new to this blog (because we hate for you to waste you time coming to the site if there’s nothing new going on). One of the things that we tried to while writing songs for the new album was to address some difficult societal issues that the five of us wrestle with from time to time. For us music has often been the great equalizer; a thing that allows us to relate with people and issues that we may have never gotten a chance to encounter otherwise. I think that’s why I (Joe) was particularly gripped when I heard the news today about a violent backlash that is happening in Mexico as I type this.
Apparently, kids in Mexico that identify with the emo subculture are becoming the target for violence simply based on the fact that people think that the music (and fashion) that they’re into is a bit effeminate. This isn’t just high school bullying I’m talking about…this is big enough news to get the attention of Time Magazine.
Here’s a video of the craziness:
Our music may not be anywhere close to emo (save the falsetto from time to time), but I’ve been to a Dashboard Confessional show or two…I’m really just speachless about all this. Here’s some lyrics from one of our new songs that I think captures the way I’m feeling right now.
we can only fight the fire with fire so long baby
till it all burns down, till it all burns down
what’s it gonna take to make us all stop now baby
till it all burns down, till it all burns down
9:00am We started the morning with our favorite coffee (something about the coffee here is magical, if you haven’t caught on to that yet). This could perhaps be the last pot of studio coffee we have for a long time. Now we’re headed upstairs to knock this out!
10:57am We’ve been tweaking some programming, mostly on “Nobody But You.” Luke has been working on some tasty drum loops while Russ has been dropping some dope beat-box tracks. No one really knows what “Jow” has been doing.
11:08am Russ has been warming up on trumpet and is now going in to lay down some background vocals on “Straight Fallin’.” Luke and Stephen are taking a quick break. “Jow” is still sitting in the corner with a blank stare, gazing at his computer. We think he might be working on the new FE website.
11:46am Luke is booking shows, Russ’ BGV’s are smokin’, and Stephen won’t stop talking about lunch. Here’s a little video footage from yesterday’s adventures. We dedicate this video to Mark and Dustin. And Stumpy (may he she rest in peace).
